Current Sustainable/Green Practices
- All electrical energy is 100% Wind Power provided by NW Natural & Pacific Power Blue Sky Program. All natural gas usage is offset using NW Natural Smart Energy Program. Energy saving Compact Fluorescent light bulbs are utilized throughout the office.
- Our forklift runs on 100% wind power.
- All packing materials (cardboard, plastic, tape, Styrofoam and wood) used for a move or delivery are reused or recycled.
- Use of tape and plastic wrap is reduced to a minimum by the use of rubber bands.
- Use of Bio-degradable Shrink wrap.
- We utilize e-mails and e-fax as much as possible to minimize company paper use. Double sided printing is standard practice.
- Our Bio-Diesel fueled moving truck is retro-fitted with a Donaldson DPF emission reducing filter cutting our emissions by 85%. GPS units are installed in all vehicles to determine most efficient route. All company vehicle operations and employee commutes are carbon off set by our partnership with Terra Pass. Staff is encouraged to work from home when possible to minimize travel emissions. Employees are also encouraged to utilize mass transit and/or carpooling.
- LionsPride is part of Local First a program initiated by the Sustainable Business Network of Portland.
- We utilize local vendors first.
- LionsPride works to purchase equipment or materials that are local, recyclable, made of recycled content and reduce waste. This often pushes us to buy used/reconditioned or energy star type equipment. As well as recycled products such as paper. Are commitment to the environment is outlined in our Sustainability Plan which is available to the public on our website.
- We request from our suppliers to specify whether there is an alternative product that has recycled content or is recyclable that could be substituted when making our purchases. If no alternative is available LionsPride will minimize the use of the product. We have developed a list of vendors who are willing to provide earth friendly alternatives.
- We encourage our clients to recycle all moving materials. We provide a free pick up service and are available for drop offs during business hours.
- We salvage non-recyclable plastic pallets for our warehouse.
- We also salvaged carpet torn up during our last remodel and reused it on our pallets. As well as continually acquire carpet heading to the dump via our neighbors for such projects.
- Strive hard to reduce our paper consumption in the office, printing double sided and using every piece of scrap paper for our notes. When we’re done, we recycle it all.
- Lunchroom composting.
