Sustainability Plan 2012

I. VISION
LionsPride Sustainable Moving, Delivery & Storage envisions continuing to be a model sustainable moving & delivery company and to find new ways to share our methods with our local industry. Our intent is to try and improve the local industries practices and carbon foot print. We intend to continue to research new practices, materials and equipment to insert into our business model and share this with the rest of our industry.

II. OPERATION

A. Operation site will implement green standards at all times.

  • Research solar or green tree roof for the future
  • Car pooling and public transit to work
  • Green energy
  • On-site Composting
  • Recycling/Re-use of all packing materials
  • Salvaging and use of salvaged materials for equipment such as moving 4-wheelers
  • Purchasing local first
  • Use of earth-friendly products, such as Bio-Degradable Shrink Wrap & cleaning supplies
  • Sell used, misprint & 100% recycled moving boxes when possible
  • Rent plastic moving boxes (via Rent-a-Crate)

B. Eco-Conscious Vehicles

  • Fueled with Bio-Diesel and vehicle checklist maintained for fuel efficiency.
  • GPS units installed in all vehicles.
  • Retrofitted Trucks
  • Research into other alternative fueled trucks


C. Focus

  • Continuous green evolution business practices, continuous green alternatives researched and implemented into all aspects of our business.

III. BUSINESS ACTIVITIES & ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
We are committed to managing our activities with utmost regard to the environment. We will continually research and implement green alternatives where performance will not be compromised.

  • Staff is encouraged to work from home when possible to minimize travel emissions.
  • Wind Power for warehouse and forklift via Pac Power

  • Minimal use of heat and lights

C. Travel

1. Vehicles Eco-consciously maintained *LionsPride Vehicle Checklist

  • Fueled with Bio-Diesel.
  • Use daily Vehicle Checklist to maintain vehicles for optimal fuel efficiency.
  • GPS units installed in all vehicles to determine most efficient route.
  • Employees encouraged to utilize mass transit / carpooling.

D. Office Meetings

  • Monthly meetings on research & progress on company green strategies.

IV. WASTE GENERATION & RECYCLING
Reuse and Recycle as much as possible to minimize actual waste.

A. Recycle & Donation

  • Moving paper, sheets of foam, bubble wrap, foam corners, foam blocks, cardboard sheets & cartons are sorted and salvaged for re-use, recycle and donation (donated to Carton Supply for resale to the public)
  • Office paper, plastic, foam, tin, glass, wood and Styrofoam is recycled.
  • Pallets (salvaged plastic), moving blankets, white-gloves, shoe covers and  restroom towels are washed and reused.

B. Office Activities

  • We will utilize e-mails and e-fax as much as possible to minimize paper use.
  • Double sided printing is utilized as much as possible to reduce paper use.
  • Paper that is no longer needed w/o confidential info is used as scrap paper.
  • Food Compost.
  • Energy Star/equivalent and/or used equipment is utilized in the office.

V. WATER USE
We have implemented water saving devices as suggested by the City of Portland’s Water Bureau.

A. Bathroom & Kitchen

  • Faucet aerators/restrictions used on all sinks.
  • Lunchroom composting containers available on premises

VI. LONG TERM SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
LionsPride will always be taking additional steps towards lessening our environmental and carbon footprint. Our staff is trained and encouraged to share new ideas that may lessen our environmental impact.

  • Research additional Retrofits for our existing fleet

  • Our goal is as we grow to keep existing trucks on the road. We intend to do that by purchasing older vehicles and retrofitting them to today’s standards before we buy new.

  2. Natural Gas (currently more cost effective than Propane)
  3. Propane Retro Fits (burns at twice the efficiency of Natural Gas)
  4. Nose Cone (work with Cascade Sierra Solutions to finance)

  • Buy our own warehouse and implement green renovations
